Mary Hoar

A fourth generation Yonkers resident, Mary is an educator. She currently teaches computer literacy to adults at Pathways to Success.  In 2014 Mary was named the Yonkers Public Schools’ Adult Education Teacher of the Year.

 

Mary has received countless volunteer service awards from local chapters of distinguished organizations such Jay-N-Cees, Red Cross, March of Dimes and Yonkers Historical Society. She has also been honored with many official proclamations and certificates for her volunteer service from local and state officials, included being named one of Yonkers 2014 Women of Distinction, and has been listed in Who’s Who of America, Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who of the World.  In 2016, she was named to the Westchester County Senior Hall of Fame.

 

Currently, Mary serves as President of the Untermyer Performing Arts Council, is on the Landmarks Preservation Board, is President Emerita of the Yonkers Historical Society and is an officer of the Westchester County Genealogy Society. She also is a Board Member of the American Irish Association of Westchester.

 

From birth, Mary’s family would read to her at least three times a day. When she was a bit older, she looked forward to twice weekly family trips to the Carnegie Library.
