Ruth Walter
The Honorable Ruth Walter grew up in Dobbs Ferry, the youngest of 8 children. She graduated from Hackley School in Tarrytown and Princeton University. Her interest in public service came from her father, who was a speechwriter for New York City politicians and her mother, who was an elementary school teacher in the Bronx. Ruth has served in many civic roles, most recently as Westchester County Legislator (2020-2021) where she secured new funds to the YPL for gardening programming, including transforming marginal space with native and pollinator-friendly plantings.
Ruth loved visiting the Will Library with her dad when she was a girl, and she has been a proud member of the Friends of the Crestwood Library since 2017. Ruth is delighted to join this amazing Board and to contribute her efforts to the mission of the Foundation for the Yonkers Public Library.
